Creative writing class, Durham Castle, 2010 - Murder mystery workshp

Fadia Faqir is a Writing Fellow at St Aidan's College, Durham University. She teaches a course suitable for beginners and those who have some writing experience. University students and members of the local community explore in  a supportive environment their abilities and develop their skills.

What students said about the course:

‘For two terms my Wednesdays have been magical. It has been one of the greatest honours of my life to be taught by Fadia.’ Genevieve Lowles

‘I loved this course because it provided me with an environment in which I was motivated to write. All in all a truly enriching experience . . .This course was also a wonderful brief escape from the dry, boring and nerve-wrecking subject that is computer science.’  Matthieu Miossec

Definitely enjoyed the workshopping aspects of it. The course was well structured and covered a large number of aspects of creative writing. The availability of food was also a plus.’ Hannah Earnshaw

‘The venue was brilliant. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Sharing and bouncing creative ideas off each other. Adding new authors and books to my list of “must-reads” from the suggestions in the class. CREATIVITY!’ Anna Biktimirova

‘Within the group there was a very welcoming and sharing atmosphere, perfect for those not quite sure about what they have written yet still seeking direction. Fadia is a teacher I shan’t forget.’ Lily Peters

‘The course was brilliant’ Dominic Arnold

'I absolutely loved the story material we were given. I thought the assignments were very helpful, especially the longer assignments.’ Philip Dorsett

‘The course is worth it alone for the name checks and suggestions of things to look out for, but really excels in the enthused teaching of what's important when writing. The group feedback and rapport is excellent,’ Alex Mason

‘The Wednesday workshops made me realise how much I loved writing!’ Edu Adodo
